Why one-thumb controls make or break a mobile game
The best mobile games assume you're holding your phone in one hand, maybe on a train, maybe half-distracted.
Controls that demand two thumbs and precise timing look great in a trailer and fall apart in real life. I've dropped otherwise good games purely because the input fought me.
Tap-and-drag placement, flick actions, and simple hold gestures all translate well to touch. Anything that mimics a controller usually doesn't.
When I tested Nitro District, the single-thumb drift was the whole reason it worked. Same idea in a completely different genre.
If a developer nails input for a phone, everything else feels smoother by default.
